Dance Of, By and For the People.
I am trying to expand this public notion of dance by capturing a wide variety dancers and dances.
I personally started social dancing in the Lindy Hop scene in 1999, but I have taken pictures of people dancing Argentine Tango, Belly Dance, Krump, DC Hand Dance, House, West Coast Swing, Pop & Lock, Salsa, Waltz, Balboa, Contemporary, Blues Dance, Bachata, St. Louis Shag, Foxtrot, Egyptian Folk Dance, Kizomba, Vernacular Jazz, Cha Cha, and Ballet just to name a few.
While my focus is more towards events, performances and formal photoshoots with people, I still try to pay attention to the world around me.
From government analysts to dancers to academics to musicians, I have worked with an incredibly diverse group of people over the years which has allowed me to refine my approach with a range of people who have different levels of comfort in front of the camera.
I have also had the pleasure and honor of taking promotional photographs for several bands including album covers for Craig Gildner’s “Sittin’ Pretty” and the Boilermaker Jazz Band’s “Live at Mobtown.”
One of the advantages of being trained in event management and working so many events in various roles is that I know how a good event should be run. I love using that knowledge to help me take interesting, unique, and especially unexpected photographs both in front of and behind the scenes.
